Section 2: Apple Watch App Installation (Optional)

Monica MacDonald -

Once you have successfully installed MotiFIT on your iPhone and went through the initial app setup, you can proceed to install the app on Apple Watch by following the instructions below.

On iPhone:

  1. Open the “Apple Watch”
  2. Tap on the "MY WATCH" tab.
  3. Find and tap on the "MotiFIT" app.
  4. Enable "SHOW ON APPLE WATCH".

NOTE: In watchOS 2 / iOS 9, enabling “SHOW IN GLANCES” will enable the MotiFIT Apple Watch Glance, which will display your last workout information.

You can double check that you have successfully installed MotiFIT on Apple Watch and that it is paired to your iPhone from within the iPhone app.

On iPhone:

  1. Open the “MotiFIT”
  2. Tap on the “MORE” tab.
  3. Tap on “APPLE WATCH” under “SENSORS”.

2.1 Active and Total Calories

By default, most iPhone apps paired with a Bluetooth heart rate monitor report TOTAL (ACTIVE + RESTING) calories during a workout.

By contrast, the first watch OS version reported ACTIVE calories by default.  For this reason, MotiFIT on Apple Watch reports ACTIVE calories by default.  This can be changed in the MotiFIT iPhone app.

On iPhone:

  1. Open the MotiFIT” app.
  2. Tap on the “MORE” tab.
  3. Tap on “APPLE WATCH” under “SENSORS”.
  4. Change the calorie setting to “TOTAL”.

On iPhone, the app does all the calculations based on a formula using your weight, age, gender and AVG HR.

On Apple Watch, it's completely different.  Apple Watch does all the calories calculations based on the personal information that you have entered in the iPhone’s Apple Watch utility app (black icon with sideways watch).

To verify these settings, open the iPhone’s Apple Watch utility app and then tap on the "MY WATCH" tab.  You will find your personal info under the “HEALTH” section.

You might also want to confirm that MotiFIT has permission to read both your “ACTIVE” and “RESTING” calories within the HEALTH app on your iPhone.

On iPhone:

  1. Open the “Health” app.
  2. Tap on the "SOURCES" tab.
  3. Tap on "MotiFIT".
  4. Verify that MotiFIT has permission to read/write "ACTIVE" and "RESTING" calories.
