FITIV Pulse offers the option to track your GPS location data for outdoor activities. This will give you a map of your run, walk or bike ride that you can use to analyze your route, see your speed, and more. To use these features generally you just need to start a GPS workout type with the app and accept GPS location permissions when prompted, but if you're seeing issues with your GPS location tracking please try one of the following troubleshooting steps:
GPS Location Route is Not Recording
Are you not seeing your GPS data recorded at all? If so, please first ensure that you have given FITIV Pulse access to your location in your iPhone's settings. To enable GPS:
- Open the SETTINGS app on your iPhone
- Scroll down and tap FITIV Pulse
- Tap LOCATION
- Allow location access to FITIV WHILE USING THE APP
If you make any changes to your iPhone's settings while using an Apple Watch please restart both the iPhone and Apple Watch to help ensure that those settings changes sync between devices.
GPS Location Data or Distance Data is Inaccurate
If your location data is inaccurate please ensure that FITIV has access to your GPS services as described above. If using an Apple Watch it is also important to ensure that your Apple Watch has been calibrated for GPS location accuracy. To calibrate your Apple Watch:
- Go to a flat outdoor location with clear skies and a good GPS connection
- Open the WORKOUT app on your Apple Watch
- Start an Outdoor Walk or Outdoor Run workout
- Walk or run for 20 minutes at your normal pace
If your GPS map looks accurate but your speed or distance metrics seem inflated this is generally caused by tracking with multiple workout apps at once. Please ensure that you are only tracking your workout with a single app. Completed workouts can be synced via Apple Health to and from FIIV Pulse to keep your data in sync no matter which app you are using to record.
If your GPS data is still inaccurate after these troubleshooting steps please send us an email to support@fitiv.com so that we can troubleshoot further and figure out how to fix this for you.
What is Precise Location? (iOS 14)
Apple's release of iOS 14 includes the option to give services limited location tracking by disabling PRECISE LOCATION. This, however, can cause issues when you're looking for the precision required for accurate workout tracking.
When you first download FITIV Pulse and start a GPS-tracked workout with iOS 14 you will be given an option to enable location access. On this screen you will see the option to enable your location as well as in the top left-hand corner of the map the status PRECISE: ON. Ensure that you do NOT turn off Precise Location.
If you are only seeing your location data approximately as picture below please go into your iPhone's settings and re-enable precise location:
To enable precise location:
- Open the SETTINGS app on your iPhone
- Scroll down and tap FITIV Pulse
- Tap LOCATION
- Tap to enable PRECISE LOCATION
If you make any changes to your iPhone's settings while using an Apple Watch please restart both the iPhone and Apple Watch to help ensure that those settings changes sync between devices.
Distance is Different on iPhone and Apple Watch
Due to the way that distance is calculated using GPS samples live distance tracking with the Apple Watch will always be approximate compared to the data that is determined by the iPhone using the complete GPS data.
If there is a small discrepancy between the distance features on the Apple Watch and the iPhone then consider the iPhone distance to be more accurate.
