What is the Workout Builder?
The FITIV Workout Builder is designed to let you create your own custom workouts. The Workout Builder makes it simple to create new workout types if you are doing activities that don’t come on the standard list, but it also provides many more options for pre-planning goals, intervals and workout targets to help keep you on track.
Intervals can be constructed in the WORKOUT BUILDER found in the WORKOUTS tab of the iPhone app.
How to create a workout
To create a workout go to the WORKOUTS section of the app and tap CREATE under WORKOUT BUILDER.
Under this section you can select a NAME and ACTIVITY TYPE for your workout. For a workout that only needs to be renamed this is enough, you can save the workout and you now have a new workout type to use. If, however, you're looking for more detail you can tap ADD INTERVALS to create an interval workout.
Intervals workouts have additional metrics to choose from: ROUNDS, REST and the intervals themselves.
ROUNDS refers to the number of times the workout repeats. A workout can be set to have, for example 3 rounds which would mean that the entire set of intervals would repeat 3 times for the full workout.
REST refers to rest segments between intervals. You can set, for example, a 30-second rest period that will automatically populate between the intervals you create. If you want different rest periods between the intervals you can also create individual 'rest' type intervals.
Interval Targets
Intervals each have different targets that you need to complete before that interval is done and you can move onto the next. By choosing a target you can make sure your workout progresses toward your goal. Once you reach the target you will move onto the next one. The target options are:
Time – Classic time-based intervals are perfect for 7-minute workouts, Tabata, HIIT and so much more.
Zone – Aim for a specific heart rate zone. Looking to get your heart rate up to red to warm up? Want to cool down to warmup before moving on? This is the perfect target for you.
Calories – By choosing a calorie target you can make sure you’re hitting your calorie deficit goals in every single workout. Choose a target and we will let you know when you’re done.
Distance – Distance goals are perfect for running or cycling workouts. Create a single goal for your entire workout, or break it up into segments like Couch to 5k.
Heart Rate – Heart rate targets let you make HIIT workouts that are suited perfectly to you. Create high and low heart rate targets to keep your heart working hard and getting strong.
Manual – Manual intervals are great for running laps, doing bodyweight moves, or anything else where you would like reminders of your next move but plenty of time to complete your interval.
How do you start an Intervals workout?
Intervals workouts work like every other workout type in FITIV Pulse. They will be added to your workout list, allowing you to start the workout as usual on FITIV Pulse on the iPhone or Apple Watch. Workout as usual, save as usual, and see your workout in your workout history in the iPhone app.
